Corpo Barocco was founded in Gent in 1996 by Sigrid T'Hooft, its choreographer and artistic director.
Originally concieved as a regular & local trainingprogramm for baroque dance, in cooperation with Ian Steyn Dutoits Balletstudio near Antwerp, it attracted an international variety of dancers, from enthousiast amateurs to professional colleagues in the field.
From 2005 on, more professional Training Sessions, both in Belgium and Germany, led to the founding of Corpo Barocco as a Performance Company.
They premiered with Corpus Bach in the Bruges Concertgebouw, and were equally succesfull in dancing & acting in Händel's Radamisto at the Karlsruhe Händel Festival, in La Pellegrina & Odeo in different venues in Belgium, as well as in Händel's Amadigi di Gaula in Göttingen.
Corpo Barocco consists of a mixture of dancers with different backgrounds, both in style as in early-dance-education, with some of them directing, teaching or researching in early dance as well.
What they all share is a common training with Sigrid T'Hooft, a genuine passion for early dance, a great fondness for baroque music, and a tingling desire to "move" the public through theatrical action.
